Presence of water in liquid & vapor form in a package containing metals had always been an unpleasant
subject. Conventional Desiccants partially addressed these problems only if it were used in a right way.
Silica gel is most commonly used desiccant, which attracts and holds water by adsorption and capillary
condensation, allowing Silica gel to adsorb about 25% plus of its weight in water.
Procedure to Activate Silica Gel :
Safepack Silica Gel pouch contains 25% of blue coloured granules. Blue colour turns to purple to pink when Silica Gel is partially saturated. It becomes whitish on complete saturation, i.e it has become deactivated.
Take the deactivated pouches of Silica gel in a tray. Keep the tray at a fixed temperature (115 – 1250 C) for 2 to 4 hrs in a ventilated oven.
Check the pouch for colour difference. Initially the whitish granules will turn to pink and as time passes the indicative type of granules will become blue in colour.
The colour change from white to blue confirms that Silica gel is reactivated and ready for use.
Repeat the same procedure every time so as to reactivate and reuse the same pouch of Silica gel.
Features & Benifits :
Silica Gel performs best at room temperatures (700 to 900 F) and high humidity (60% to 90% Rh) and will drop the relative humidity in a container down to around 40 Rh.
Indicating Silica Gel is deep blue colour when it is dry and turns from blue to purple to pink as it becomes saturated with moisture.
High crush strength and high porosity.
Remains dry and free flowing even when saturated.
Chemically inert and Non-Corrosive.
